Who is Construct IT For Business?
Construct IT For Business is an industry-led non-profit making collaborative membership-based network. It comprises leading edge organisations representative of the construction industry supply chain in addition to professional institutes and R&D/academic institutions, whose aim is to improve industry performance through the innovative application of IT and act as a catalyst for academic and industrial collaboration.
The mission of Construct IT is ….
"To be an effective enabling and co-ordinating force (agent) in the application of IT within the construction process as a contribution to innovation and development of best practice".
Construct IT For Business was formed in 1994 much to the foresight of a leading academic in the field of construction IT in response to the continual echoes from industry expressing the need for an industry-led network organisation/centre of excellence that promoted innovation and co-ordinated research in IT in construction in the UK. In gaining the support of an industry champion and government backing, and following an initial workshop with interested parties to discuss the potential for such a network organisation, the Construct IT network was launched.
What does Construct IT For Business do?
The activity of Construct IT includes:
Opportunity
through Construct IT to contribute to the development of the UK NTP in the areas
of process development, lean construction, ICT and knowledge management, i.e.
"Transformation of the Construction Industry", potentially through
an ICT Focus Group. The concept of European Technology Platforms is stakeholders
getting together to define a Strategic Research Agenda to address a number of
strategically important issues with high societal relevance where achieving
Europe’s future growth, competitiveness and sustainable objectives is
dependent upon major research and technological advances in the medium to long
term.

Construct IT received the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2000 for Higher and Further Education. This was awarded for “making an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the practice of information technology in the UK construction industry. It has created an impressive international network and continues to develop the use of IT and other technology to improve the efficiency in a crucial industrial field”. Professor Sarshar , Professor Betts, Professor Brandon and the Salford Team went down to London to collect the award on 14th and 15th February 2001. |

Why join Construct IT For Business?
In essence, if Construct IT did not exist then the construction industry would have to create it or alternatively, organisations would have to orchestrate the activity within their own businesses. However, Construct IT does already exist with over 10 year’s experience, which has resulted in numerous outputs benefiting from the contribution of a variety of key stakeholders.
