Facilitated
Workshop: Evolving towards Integrated Project Delivery |
|

Mark
Bew, Scott Wilson |
 |
| |
Simon
Loader, Lumenicity |
|
| |
Christopher
Groome, buildingSMART |
 |
| |
Steve
Dunwell, Oracle |
 |
|
This
session explored and debated the evolutionary progress that the construction
industry has made to date along with what potentially lies ahead in moving
from traditional 2D drafting through virtual modelling, embracing collaborative
working, towards full integrated project delivery. Mark opened the session
by providing an industry perspective, which was followed by a client's
view on the importance of BIM data being presented by Simon. The perspective
of a standards body was then discussed by Chris before Steve provided
that of a software vendor's. These key industrialists' perspectives set
the scene and created the platform for discussion.

Clients'
Observations and Challenges |
 |
| |
John
Reekie & Martin Smith, Lumenicity |
| John
& Martin presented honest observations and challenges based upon their
experience of working within major construction clients. This interactive
session included up-to-date "insider" information on clients'
current level of understanding and interest in BIM. |

'Build
London Live' - Building Design in the 21st Century |
 |
| |
Paul
Markovits, Asite |
| |
Nicholas
Nisbet, AEC3 |
| On
two ordinary days in June 2008, something extraordinary happened. It was
called 'Build London Live'. In 48 hours, more than 300 designers in 12 teams
across 4 continents created astonishing designs. They used some of the most
advanced design software available, collaborated across the Internet, used
open standards to share information, and demonstrated how building design
should be carried out in the 21st century. Paul and Nick provided the story
of 'Build London Live'. |

Collaboration
as a Strategic Tool for Project Delivery |
 |
| |
Simon
Gillis, Autodesk |
| |
Adam
Matthews , Autodesk |
|
Paul
and Adam presented the view of Autodesk on the use of collaboration within
the Construction Industry. Having worked in the field of collaboration
since 2000, they provided their insight, gained from working with organisations
and project teams, on how to get the best from collaboration solutions.

Interactive
Real-time 3D Visualisation for Public Participation |
 |
| |
Kim
Foster, Fusion GFX |
|
Kim
discussed and demonstrated the development process and challenges from
3D laser scanning and database modelling, through to interactive visualisations
for the web and portable projection displays. She presented this through
the University of Salford-led research projects Virtual Environmental
Planning (VEPs) and Sustainable Urban Regeneration (SURegen), together
with the televised series Battlefield Detectives: Waterloo.

Improvement through BIM: A Lead Contractor's View |
 |
| |
William
Hackney, Taylor Woodrow |
| William
provided a lead contractor's view on the requirements of the construction
industry, both short term and long term, to ensure improvement in the implementation
of BIM throughout the construction project lifecycle. |
