A key aspect in achieveing benefit from IT projects is the ability of organisations, where required, to complete detailed benefit evaluations. They enable strong business cases for systems to be produced, and enable systems to be fully assessed and utilised.

A major part of the research that has developed the IT Exploitation Process, has come from a number of IT benefit evaluations completed with UK construction organisations. 'Live' IT implementation projects were evaluated using the Construct IT's 'Measuring the Benefit of IT Innovation' framework, and examples of companies existing use and adpatation of the framework were collected. Detailed examples are given below:

Detailed Example 1
  • Intranet system implemented by a UK contractor across its regional offices.
Detailed Example 2
Detailed Example 3
  • Adaptation of the framework - examples of how a major national and international UK contractor has extensively used and adapted the framework to meet its specific organisational requirements.
Detailed Example 4
  • Loughborough University Benefit Assessment report (1999) which contains three case studies using the framework. The report contains a detailed analysis of the techniques and methodologies used in IT benefit evaluation, and uses the three case studies to assess the effectiveness and use of Construct IT benefit evaluation framework.
The three case study systems in the report are:

    1. An electronic document management system.
    2. A video conference system for a design and build collaboration.
    3. a video conference system to improve organisational communications.
